According to a recent Internet World Stats report, Arabic has over 375 million users, yet 55.5% of all web content is in English

CUPERTINO, CA, UNITED STATES, May 1, 2017  — Even today, it’s estimated that 55.5% of all web content is in English. However, only around 20% of the world’s population speaks English to any degree, and just 5% of the world speaks English as a native language.

Arabic is a key language in over 20 countries, and over 375 million people speak Arabic worldwide, representing 5.2% of the global population. A trend can be seen in the private and non-profit sectors as businesses seek to better understand developing markets, and organizations work across borders to develop institutions, improve economies, and educate young people in the Middle East and North Africa.

“While the diversity of languages on the Internet has been growing in recent years, for most people, there is still very little content in their own language,” commented Sue Brett, C.E.O at learningonline.xyz.

It’s estimated that approximately 35.8% of the Arabic-speaking population is online, with Egypt, Morocco, Saudi Arabia, Sudan and the UAE topping the statistics, each country having over 8 million internet users. Dubai Expo 2020 and Amazon’s purchase of the Middle Eastern souq.com underlines the e-commerce tipping point.

“There is always a balance between integrating and preserving cultural heritage. Most people prefer learning in their own language. Developing quality, online courses for Arabic learners is very important to us, as part of our overall commitment to the region. This week, we launched an initial range of soft skills in Arabic, with an aggressive growth plan in place. As the Arabic saying goes, ‘awwal alshshajarat bidharr (A tree begins with a seed.),” Ms. Brett continued.
